Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has charged a ten member regional team constituted to oversee the implementation of the New Patriotic Party’s flagship programme; the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme, to  ensure that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of eradicating poverty is achieved.

According to the Dr Bawumia, the President had confidence in those selected and was very optimistic that they would help bring their expertise on board to help make poverty a thing of the past.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given the firm assurance that he would do anything to protect the environment by halting the activities of illegal miners, popularly known as ‘galamseyers.’

The President made this emphatic statement over the weekend at Kyebi, in the Eastern region, when he joined the Okyenhene to mark this year’s Ohum festival, under the theme, ‘Taking Charge of the Environment.’

Setting the records straight, President Nana Akufo-Addo explained that he was not in any way against mining, but what he frowned on was illegal mining as a result of its negative impacts on the environment.

NHIS capitation policy in A/R to be scrapped

The Minister of Health, Kweku Agyemang Manu, is expected to announce the cancellation of the National Health Insurance Scheme capitation policy which had been piloted in the Ashanti Region for the past six years.

Simon Osei Mensah the Ashanti Regional Minister, who made this known to the media, said although he cannot exactly tell the date the announcement would be made, there would be an official communications from the presidency.

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference for presiding members in the region, held last week at Konongo, the Minister told journalists that the President had personally given the green light for the scraping of the six year old killer policy which is being piloted only in the Ashanti Region.
