The Chronicle – Danger! …drugs you consume may be fake.


Members of Parliament, (MPs) have raised serious concerns over the importation of fake drugs into the country.

Consumers of drugs stand a very high risk of endangering their lives, as reports reveal countless of unregistered medicines being smuggled into the country through unapproved routes.

The March 2014 report of the Auditor General before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, accused the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of failing to monitor and arrest fake drugs coming into the country.

According to the members of the committee (PAC), consumers of medical products are at great risk, following the high infiltration of unauthorized and substandard drugs into the country.

Soldiers gun down defiant galamseyers

One person died on Sunday when the joint military /police national exercise to clamp down on illegal miners, code named Operation Vanguard had an encounter with illegal miners at Anyimadukrom, a suburb of Obuasi.

The name of the deceased was given as Kwabena Agyemang.  Agyemang, in the company of other young men was said to have gone to their galamsey (illegal mining) pit on the outskirts of the town when he met his untimely death.

Major Gariba Pabi, public relations officer of the anti galamsey task force, speaking on Time FM, a local radio station in Obuasi, explained that the military during one of their rounds, chanced on the illegal miners who threw stones and also fired guns at them.

ENI meddling in chieftaincy matters – Nzema Chiefs

An American trained economist and the Paramount Chief of Atuabo, Awulae Amihere Kpanyile lll, has accused Italian oil ENI, of meddling in chieftaincy matters in his traditional area.

According to the Chief, who also presides over the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council (ENTC) the oil drilling company recently dismissed two workers for not supporting the enstoolment of a disputed chief at Sanzule.

The said chief was not recognized by the ENTC hence, the refusal of the dismissed workers to recognize him, but ENI still went ahead to dismiss them.
