Hassan Ayariga, flagbearer of All Peoples Congress (APC) has stated that it is disgraceful and a national shame for anyone in Ghana to be headporter (Kayayoo) in this era of technology and inventions.

He bemoaned how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is promoting Kayayo business instead of putting them in school to learn and contribute their quota to national development.

Mr. Ayariga who was speaking in interview on Joy FM today, said it is a disgrace not only to Ghana but the Vice President Dr. Bawumia who is also from the North and has almost 90 percent of these girls (Kayayei) from his village, adding that “I am yet to see an Ashanti as a Kayayo”.

“I was not happy when I watched the ‘Kayayei’, our young, innocent kids were asked to parade at the Independence Square for the whole world to see that Ghana in the 21 century was still introducing people to carry headpans on their heads as an achievement ”

“Many Presidents were there, and all we could portray to Ghanaians was that this is how far we have come as a nation instead of changing the lives of these ‘, ‘Kayayei’, he said.
