Three persons have been sentenced to 68 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for robbing a Forex Bureau and six persons of GHȼ42,000.00, foreign currencies and mobiles phones at Teshie.
Stephen Bediako aka Skyro or Mawuli had 24 years because the court described him as the ring leader of operations, while Kweku Nuworpkeh aka Olugbame or Stephen and Abass Fuseni had 22 years imprisonment each.
This was after the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh had found them guilty on the charges of conspiracy to rob and on five counts of robbery.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo said the first two complainants were Sani Abubakar and Issah Mohammed, all businessmen residing at Ashaley Botwe and Kotobabi respectively.
Chief Inspector Dosoo said Doris Okai, Quist Adotey, Esther Quist and Odame Chijinkee are businessmen and women residing at Nungua, Accra who the convicts robbed them at Coco Palace Lodge at Nungua.
According to prosecution, Bediako is unemployed and resident of Teshie, Nuworkpeh is a farmer residing at Kpetoe and Fuseni is unemployed residing at Aflao in the Volta Region.
Mr Dosoo said the convicts became friends about three months ago.
The prosecution said Bediako usually go round during the day to survey places where he deemed fit to rob and invite his accomplices namely Nuworkpeh and Fuseni later to do the act.
On August 23, last year, Prosecution said Bediako invited Nuworkpeh who also invited Fuseni from the Volta Region to embark on robbery spree.
Prosecution said Nuworkpeh and Fuseni arrived in Accra on the same day that evening. Nuworkpeh spent the night at Bediako’s house but Fuseni spent the night somewhere else.
Mr Dosoo said the following day, at about 0800 hours the convicts met at Fertilizer Road at Teshie and waited patiently at Cosmos Forex Bureau for the arrival of Abubakar and Mohammed.
According to prosecution, 30 minutes after the two complainants had entered the Forex bureau to commence business, Nuworkpeh who was armed with pump action gun, took position at the entrance of the forex bureau whiles Bediako and Fuseni who were armed with pistols entered the forex bureau and ordered the complainants to surrender monies, mobile phones and laptops.
The Prosecution said without any resistance, Fuseni hit the forehead of Mr Mohammed with the butt of the pistol and collected GHȼ40,000.00, CFA 67,000 and 20,000 Naira and bolted.
Mr Mohammed an Abubakar raised alarm and that attracted people to the scene.
The convicts were chased but Bediako fired his weapon to scare the people.
Prosecution said the Police later arrived at the scene and managed to arrest the accused persons at different locations with their weapons. Complainant also identified them.
