The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) will on Saturday, October 21 hold its 4th National Convention at the New GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
According to a release on Sunday, the Convention will strategise plans for the proposed local government elections scheduled to be held in 2018.
The party will also review strategies for the 2020 elections. The Convention will be themed: ‘Election of MMDCEs for Rapid National Development’.
PPP has always claimed to be a champion of elections of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) though the current government has expressed commitment to implement it. The current system sees the MMDCEs appointed by central government.
The meeting to map out plans for the MMDCE elections is scheduled for the eve of the Convention.
“There will be presentations from the National Chairman, National Secretary and National Treasurer on their stewardship in the last election.”
Constituency, regional, national and diasporan branches will be represented at the Convention. “The National Committee urges all PPP members and supporters to continue with the polling station organization, Constituency and Regional elections to prepare grounds for the National election.
The PPP is the party of choice in election 2020,” the release signed by National Chairman Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond concluded.
