Ho: Teachers stranded at GES office
Hundreds of newly recruited teachers in the Volta region were stranded at the Volta Regional Directorate of Education office, in Ho Thursday where they turned up for a biometric registration.
The teachers who came from the Southern and Central part of the region were scheduled to undergo the biometric registration slated for today, Thursday to Saturday, to enable the payment of their salaries.
However, the officials from the ministry of finance who were expected to carry out the exercise failed to turn up, leaving the young teachers stranded.
The frustrated teachers speaking to Starr News said their coordinators informed them a week ago about the registration in Ho only to come and realize that, the officials rather diverted the exercise to Biakoye district which was not part of the schedule.
Some of them also alleged that their colleagues at the Biakoye district paid the registration officials to carry out the exercise in their area.
“Some of us came here since dawn, just to undergo the exercise but the people didn’t show up. Moments ago, an official from the directorate came to tell us that the officers from Accra have bypassed the regional capital and are carrying out the exercise at Biakoye,”one of the teachers narrated to Starr News.
Another angry looking teacher added: “For the past 8 months we’ve not receive salaries and this biometric registration is supposed to be the final process for us to start taking our pay but nothing is happening today and we are being told to come back to tomorrow.”
