Graphic Business – Lome Charter disingenuous to businesses.
THE Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Reverend Dr Peter Issaka Azuma, says the Lome charter on maritime security, safety and development which was adopted by the General assembly of the Africa Union is inimical to the entrepreneurial drive of the continent.
In its current state, the charter was only preaching safety and security for foreign interests instead of promoting African ownership of businesses in the maritime industry, Dr Azuma said.
Create incentive to back SMEs – Prof Pikay
Visiting fellow at Manchester Business School, Professor Pikay Richardson, wants Ghana to craft a deliberate policy with incentives to encourage the formation of startups which should be given the support to grow.
He said a well developed small and medium enterprises (SMEs) sector was crucial to the country’s economic transformation and therefore called on the government to make available what he called encouragement grant and secondment to grow SMEs.

This was announced at the 33rd ordinary session of the Bureaux held in Accra. The appointment which takes effect from January 1, 2017 is a four year term renewable for another four years.
He would serve in the diplomatic capacity and coordinate all affairs of all the countries within the ECOWAS sub region on matters related to the scheme.
